HEATHROW'S team of multi-faith chaplains have met to officially open Terminal 3's new airside prayer room.
The room, situated near the Air India Lounge, is the third new prayer room that has been opened as a result of the work of the Multi-Faith Prayer Room Redevelopment and Planning Group.
A fourth prayer room has been greatly improved, two more are soon to open and others are planned for the new Terminal 2.
Major Melvyn Ackroyd praised the hard work that had gone into creating the room and bringing Heathrow's prayer rooms 'up to a standard that BAA can rightfully be proud of'.
He said: "It is a tribute to BAA that in this time of economic difficulty and in the middle of a busy terminal, space has been made, and much thought given, to creating a special place of tranquillity where people of all faiths can find room to commune with their God."
Operations director Graham Simpson cut the ribbon to officially open the new prayer room and readings were made by various chaplains.
The new landside prayer room in Terminal 3 is due to be opened on March 8 by T3's Operating Director, Susan Goldsmith.
