transition towns.jpg ENVIRONMENTAL groups in the south-east gathered to discuss making improvements to the climate at Grow Heathrow community gardens on Saturday.

More than 50 people attended including MP John McDonnell and groups from Hackney and Woking, on June 11.

The Transition Town groups which included Transition Heathrow, formed in opposition of the third runway that would have bulldozed Sipson and neighbouring villages, came together for a day of sharing experiences, presentations, a tour of the site, workshops and mingling.

Joe Rake, 20, event organiser and member of Transition Heathrow, said: "Before we even started the Transition Heathrow project one of our main aims was to combine climate activism with local community initiatives by adding a more radical edge to the Transition Towns movement.

"The gathering on Saturday gave us the chance to present this idea to people involved in other initiatives but also a chance to hear what other groups are up to."
